Access to Public Trustee services in Nairobi has been moved to an online system following a new directive that requires members of the public to use the e-Citizen platform when submitting applications, ending the need for in-person visits to the city office.
The shift, announced by the Office of the Attorney General, takes effect from April 8, 2026 and is expected to change how residents engage with the Public Trustee Nairobi Office by routing all requests through a digital portal.
"This initiative marks a significant step in enhancing access to justice and improving service delivery through digital transformation," read a statement seen by Radio Generation.
Under the new system, individuals seeking Public Trustee services will be able to apply, track progress, and receive information online without physically going to the Nairobi offices. The platform is designed to support real-time access to services for users across different locations, including those far from the capital.
The services now available through the online portal include handling of estates belonging to deceased persons, as well as the management and distribution of accident compensation funds that are submitted to the Public Trustee by insurance companies. These processes will now be initiated and managed digitally.
In addition, the platform will cater for trust administration involving minors, individuals living with mental disability, and persons who cannot manage their affairs due to age, illness, or other circumstances as determined by a court. Applicants will be required to complete the process through the designated online system.
From April 8, 2026, all applications targeting services at the Public Trustee Nairobi Office will be submitted only through the e-Citizen portal, with the online channel serving as the sole point of entry for new requests.
The Attorney General’s office has called on the public and stakeholders to adopt the digital platform, noting that the move is part of wider efforts to streamline government services and improve access through technology.
